Mission: Mission 2 - Death is Only the Beginning

A lot had went on in the last hour or so for the crew of the USS Concord they had rescued overt a dozen individuals from an alien ship. They now knew the people as the Kobali but sadly the there were twelve Kobali lost with their ship. The crew of the USS Concord had also suffered losses, however now wasn't the time to mourn their fellow crewman and friends.

Captain Tyler Driskill composed himself and stepped through his ready room door, onto the bridge of his starship. "It's time we check in on our new friends" he was headed toward the turbo lift toward the rear of the bridge. "Lieutenant Wilde if you would join me" he requested of his security chief as he walked by her station.

"Of course, Captain," Nixie signaled for her cover, heading towards the lift to catch up with him. She seemed as steady and calm as ever, but the last few days were weighing on her as much as anyone else.

Tyler ordered "deck twelve" as the doors closed behind the two officers. "Have we had any problems out of our guests" the Captain asked raising an eyebrow. He hadn't heard of any trouble, but it was a big ship and he had been in his ready room for the last few hours.

"No, Captain," Nixie assured quickly, shaking her head firmly with a frown as she thought back on how they'd found them. "Understandably, they're traumatized confused...which can sometimes cause problems, but at the moment, they're just trying to process everything that's happened. And they seem to believe that we're friends not foes."

Captain Driskill stood in silence for a moment, he could hear as the lift passed each deck. “Well let’s go see our new friends” he said with a smile as they stepped into deck twelve. “With everything that’s gone on since we’ve arrived in the Delta Quadrant we can use all the friends we can get” he was half joking.

"It looks like they do too," Nixie offered him a weak, half smile in return. She had no idea what they'd gotten involved with here. And even when they were able to fill in some blanks, they'd only be getting half the story. But for all intents and purposes, it seemed like these people had been overpowered by an unnecessarily aggressive force.

It didn't take the pair long to reach sickbay once they arrived on deck twelve. Even less time to spot the doctor in the main area of sickbay with a team of medical staff buzzing around like a hive of bee's. "How are things doctor Gaeta" the Captain asked giving a nod to a blue skinned alien that glanced over at him from one of the near by bio-beds.

Gaeta looked at him, letting out a breath. "Busy," he said, before the small smile came. "But we're making do. As are they."

"Very well may I speak to their Captain" Tyler asked, making sure the alien was medically cleared and the doc didn't think it would stress him out to bad.

"Yes, but try and make it brief," Gaeta said as he met his eyes, holding them with meaning. If anything, just from the emotional shock of the alien Captain and their situation.

"Thank you doctor" the three Starfleet officers made their way over to one of the bio beds. Tyler wore a soft smile on his face as he spoke "hello, I am Captain Tyler Driskill and this is my chief of security, Lieutenant Wilde. I'm sure you've been informed by now you are aboard the USS Concord. A Federation starship, we answered your distress call."

Everything that happened had the Kobali Captain a little disoriented already but he blinked a few times and repeated "Federation?"

"It's all a long story, which I'll be happy to explain" Tyler had to get down to the bad news "but I have to tell you we were not able to rescue all of your people and your ship was lost."

"How many" there was a pause from the alien and the second time he asked he shouted "how many were lost?"

Tyler shook his head "we don't have a count of how many were lost but we were able to save several of your people. As you can see several are here being treated for a variety of injuries and others have been assigned quarters."

"I'm Konir" the Kobali Captain was sitting on the side of the bio bed now and looking Captain Driskill in the eyes. "Would I be permitted to contact one of our ships to retrieve us?"

"Of course you are not prisoners" Captain Driskill smiled and offered assistance to get Konir to a near by console. Tyler gave the Kobali access to the communications array.

It didn't take Konir long to contact one of his peoples ships and the Captain agreed to retrieve the surviving Kobali. "Captain Finlin has agreed to meet with us at these coordinates in three days time. If you would be so kind to deliver us to the location?"

Tyler gave a nod "we will be glad and in the mean time Lieutenant Wilde and I will show you to your quarters as I am needed on the bridge, but I will meet with you later this evening, Captain.

The guest quarters aboard the Nebula Class starship were very nice "I hope you find our guest quarters suitable" Captain Driskill smiled as the trio exited the turbo lift.

"If they are anything like your medical facility, I'm sure they are extravagant" the Kobali Captain returned Tyler's smile. "I hope my people have been no trouble" Konir wanted to be sure he was showing respect and making sure the rest of the Kobali were doing the same.

"We are glad we were able to assist your people. I just wish we could have saved everyone" the statement made by Captain Driskill left the turbo lift silent for a few seconds. The lift doors sliding open broke the silence and Tyler gestured for their guest to follow and started down the corridor "one of our goals out among the stars is to seek out new life and make peaceful contact. I hope our meeting might lead to a friend here in the Delta Quadrant."

"You can never have to many allies" Konir replied with a smile. "I hope my people being aboard for three more days wont cause to much of a burden on your crew, Captain."

"We are glad to have you aboard and it's no burden at all, Konir" Tyler returned the smiled. "Ah here we are" he said as they approached the door to one of the Concords guest quarters. "Your home away from home" Tyler smiled at Konir and opened the doors via the access panel.

Konir gave a nod and a smile, he was surprised at how polite and accommodating these humans were. "Thank you, Captain" he looked around his temporary home and then back at Tyler "this is more then we need Captain." The tired smile on his face signaled that the Kobali needed some rest after all he was just released from sickbay.

"Well Konir" the Captain smiled "we will let you get some rest. If you need anything just call and also feel free to use the replicator. The Lieutenant and I will be on the bridge" he gave a nod and he and Nixie left the Kobali alone to get some rest and continue to heal from his injuries. In three days their blue skinned guests would be returned to their people and the USS Concord would get back on course in pursuit of the USS Voyager. Starfleet's attempt to return the crew of the ship, if not the Voyager herself back home to the Alpha Quadrant.
