Mission: Mission 2 - Death is Only the Beginning
Captain Tyler Driskill had spent many hours over the last few days, getting to know Konir and some of his people. The Kobali were a likeable people from what Tyler could tell over the short time he knew the small selection of them he had the chance to spend time with. He and Konir had the pleasure of enjoying one final meal together before the Concord would deliver the Kobali to one of their ships. "I've rather enjoyed getting to know you and your people?" Tyler smiled as the pair entered the turbo lift.
"Yes" Konir smiled "I agree it has been a rather enjoyable experience."
The turbo lift doors shut behind the gentlemen and Tyler ordered "deck six." The lift quickly activated and started toward the deck with transporter room one "hopefully if we meet again it is under better circumstances."
"Yes" Konir hung his head and then made eye contact with Captain Driskill "we will both feel the losses for quite sometime."
"Yes" the Captain hung his head and didn't say anything for a few seconds. "We both lost some fine people and then theirs your ship" Tyler shook his head in disappointment.
"Ship's can be replaced" Konir said a hint of sadness to his voice.
It wouldn't be so easy if there was ever enough damage to the Concord or she was lost. With the only other Federation starship in the quadrant being the USS Voyager who had no clue that Starfleet had sent a rescue attempt at all. Other then that their nearest allies were over seventy thousand light years away until they met the Kobali "I'm glad to have friends in the Delta Quadrant, Konir." Tyler and the leader of the Kobali had been in discussion to be of assistance to each other whenever need be, with supplies, repairs, etc.
"You can never have to many friends" Konir replied with a chuckle, making eye contact with Captain Driskill.
The doors of the turbo lift swooshed open and Tyler gestured for Konir to proceed onto deck six before him. "What's next for your crew" Captain Driskill asked his fellow Commanding Officer.
"We will more than likely be reassigned to another ship, preferably together" a man who enjoyed the latest and greatest technology when it came to vessels. "I'm hoping to get one of the newest versions of the Samsar Cruiser" an ear to ear smile on his face "it has some pretty nice upgrades from the Samsar MK 3."
"Nice" Driskill smiled.
"Crusing speeds of warp seven and a half, regenerative shielding, polaron arrays and photon torpedoes" the Kobali Captain was rather proud of his peoples latest ship class to be put out and didn't mind letting people know.
"Rather impressive" Captain Driskill admitted as they came to the entrance to the transporter room. "Well Konir" Tyler paused "the best of luck to you and your people." Tyler gestured for the Kobali Captain to take his place on the transporter pad and stood with his hands behind his back and a smile on his face.
"Thank you, Captain" Konir gave a nod and then stood completely still on the transporter pad.
Tyler turned and gave the Ensign at the controls a nod before turning back to watch Konir shimmer away as he was transported to the Kobali ship that they had met. He stood there for a moment after Konir was gone, turned and gave the Ensign a quick "thank you" before he made his exit en-route to the bridge.
Back on the bridge of the starship Concord, Gulati was seated at one of the auxiliary stations, mission operations. It had been a tough several days since arriving in the quadrant. They were all isolated from home, several crewmembers were dead including individuals who had been assigned as department heads. Lieutenant Commander Sledge, their First Officer had been hurt and stepped down from his position as the starship's Executive Officer. Promotions were given out, personnel from departments that needed new leadership were pulled up of transferred to fill gaps.
She herself could have never anticipated being asked to become First Officer, but these were strange times under incredibly stressful and dangerous circumstances. Sometimes, the best decisions that could be made were the ones that came out of left field, wild and untested. If Gulati felt ill prepared, she could only imagine how Tyler Rehman was feeling stepping into the role of Chief Science Officer. His predecessor had been killed by the very thing that Gulati and he were trying to hunt down. At least Sledge was still alive and well, Gulati did not have to grieve his loss for her promotion though in some ways that made it feel more awkward. He was going to underneath her in the chain of command. She would have to be comfortable giving orders to him.
Gulati looked around the bridge. They all will she reminded herself. Everyone except for Captain Driskill would be under her leadership, follow her orders in the absence of the Captain. Any sort of away mission would likely be hers to command, the team selected would be based on her choices.
