Mission 2 - Death is Only the Beginning
Location: Deck 1 | Ready room | USS Concord
Captain Driskill sat in his ready room in silence for a moment. Only the sound of the warp engines Liz attention. He was slightly pissed off at one of his people, they had been traveling to answer a distress call and he decided to have half the senior staff trying to break into the holodeck. The Captain ordered crewman Kor to report to his ready room once cleared by medical.
Vakra was patched up. As a Klingon, he regenerated well. Federation Medical Technology just moved it along faster. He approached the door and it announced his presence.
Sitting his steaming hot cup of coffee down he called out “come in.
Vakra came inside and stood at attention. His skins was so pale that it was obvious where dermal regenerator had been used. "Reporting as ordered, sir."
Captain Driskill took a deep breath in an attempt to compose himself. “Just what the hell were you thinking Crewman?” He stood from his chair “are you not aware of the situation we are in?”
Vakra nodded, "I grew up on an outpost of the Klingon Empire. During a festival that takes place at this time, we participate in a reenactment. The strongest descendant of Kahless participate in the reenactment of his path to defeat the tyrant. There are no other descendants of Kahless on board. I arranged for the time off and reserved the holodeck time. My understanding now is that I should have put the details of the ritual on my holodeck request. I also should not have made the entry Klingon Only."
“As I am sure you are aware, this isn’t a Klingon vessel.” Tyler continued to hold eye contact with Vakra and before there could be any reply. “We are stranded in the Delta Quadrant and are attempting to aide an alien ship.” The Captain all but rolled his eyes and let out a sigh before retaking his seat.
Vakra nodded, "Yes, Sir. I absolutely understand. This is not a Klingon Vessel and the Federation is not the Empire. I also understand that I overstepped Starfleet and Federation respect for Cultural Functions and Holidays."
"If you would have let us know" Tyler rubbed his temples "prepared us then perhaps it wouldn't have been a problem."
Vakra nodded, "More Communication and no more locking out the doors. I understand. Kahless fought through the city to challenge Molar. I assume you know the story. I will not try and argue my way out of punishment. I will own my deeds and accept my punishment."
Tyler listened kept eye contact with Vakra “I’m glad you understand. Of course I’ll have to put a reprimand in your service record, but that will be all the punishment.” The Captain blinked a few times before following it up with “don’t let it happen again.”
Vakra nodded, "The reprimand in my service record, according to Starfleet Uniform Code will cost me a promotion, commission, or any transfers for a period of time. I understand and accept that." He was referencing a JAG manual, but he missed a part about Federation Space. Frontier Law meant the Captain had a lot more leeway. He had just quoted a very dry text verbatim though, one most security officers outside of the JAG Corps couldn't recite, much less an Enlisted Crewman.
“Impressive” Tyler cracked a smile “of course those rules might be bent a little in the middle of the Delta Quadrant.” Driskill looked him in the eyes “but for now the reprimand stands and I’m also banning you from holodeck time for a month.”
Vakra nodded, "I acknowledge and understand. I accept my punishment with shoulders squared."
The fact that it was a Klingon ritual would mean that Tyler would re-evaluate the situation in thirty days. “Very well Vakra anything else?”
Vakra looked at him, "Traditionally, the elders of the family would review ones performance as Kahless for value and merit. Would you, the Commander, and my Department Head fill in in that role?"
“If that is your request” Tyler paused “I see no reason we can’t accommodate. As long as the requested party is willing.”
Vakra nodded, "I know Klingon Culture is viewed as violent and savage by many humans. My family adopted using the holodeck program, especially for this reenactment. In generations past, these types of reenactments left many Klingons Dead, maimed, and crippled. I respect my culture and my ancestry. Ied trust you three to judge my battle prowess, even if it isn't Federation or Starfleet Culture as a whole. You are Dominion War Veterans."
They were in fact Dominion War Veterans “what dose the ceremony intel?” Tyler assumed there was some sort of Klingon ritual involved.
Vakra grinned, "The Strongest Klingon plays the role of Kahless in his path to Molar and honors his ancestors in a reenactment. Humans called it LARPing, I think."
“We’ll clear their participation and set up the ritual” the Captain offered a smile and a nod
Vakra grinned, "I did the violent part. You Criticize my style and efficiency and efficacy."
The Captain gave a nod “is there some sort of ritual that needs to take place?”
Vakra shook his head, "No. Not a ritual as in religion. Ritual as in annual tradition."
“Very well” Tyler smiled “of course we have to deal with our current situation first.” The Captain was referring to assisting the aliens.
,
Vakra looked to him, "Duty first, of course." He changed the subject. "Do you know the female Kahlin?"
“I’ve not had the pleasure” Captain Driskill admitted. “Why do you ask” he raised an eye brow.
Vakra grinned, "She carried herself like a Klingon woman."
Klingons always had such confidence in Tyler’s eyes. “Interesting” was all the Captain said in reply.
Vakra nodded, "I would like to speak to her, with your blessing.". Klingon flirting involved violence. He was going to recite poems to her while she likely threw things at him, and he tried to get close enough to bite her. This aspect of culture could be dangerous to non Klingons and the ship.
"I don't get involved in the personal lives of the crew and don't regulate what y'all do on your free time" the Captain gave a half shrug but added quickly "as long as the relationship doesn't interfere with ones duties or responsibilities."
Vakra nodded, "I only asked because of the potential violence if I am successful. Trying to communicate about the difference between Federation and Klingon Culture, where they could cause potential issues."
"I'd make sure to communicate clearly with her as I could see there being potential issues as well" Tyler shook his head looking down and then back at Vakra "but I'm not getting involved" he stood up. "If there is nothing else mister Vakra?"
Vakra shook his head, "Negative Sir."
"Very well" Tyler said with a smile and started toward the exit with a gesture for the Crewman to follow.
Vakra fell in behind him.
